Domaine Modat - De-ci De-là 2018
16/20
Bettane & Desseauve
1*Étoile
Hachette
Fortunately, every red grape vineyard also has white grapevines. So the grapes for this cuvée were harvested “here and there.” Off the beaten path, it captivates with its complexity, striking a balance between minerality and roundness. Give it a try!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 16/20 (2017 vintage) (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
Philippe Modat made up for the thankless nature of his job as a clerk at the Commercial Court by breathing new life into his wild gneiss-based vineyards in Caramany, with the help of his tireless estate manager, Laurent Abet. Today, his sons Quentin and Louis have taken over, with many projects in mind. Impeccable viticulture, respectful winemaking, and the development of a diverse portfolio—everything is falling into place to help the estate grow and evolve. Promising wines, a cellar brimming with ideas, and a welcome breath of fresh air sweeping through an appellation that sorely needs it.

Wine rated 1*Star (2017 vintage) (A very successful wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
A native of Catalonia, Philippe Modat, a judge, is a knowledgeable wine enthusiast—just like his father, who also became a winemaker. This passion led to the establishment in 2006 of a vineyard in the Agly Valley: 27 hectares of vines on a plateau at an altitude of 300 meters, in the process of converting to organic farming since 2011 (8 hectares under biodynamic cultivation), and an ecologically designed winery equipped with solar panels, inaugurated in 2008.
