"This wine is truly exceptional. Favorite Jancis Robinson)"

"A magnificent wine that seemed to become more and more beautiful every day for a week. Remarkable concentration. The oak is clearly defined at the moment, but it is omnipresent and, judging by the abundance of fruit, it will soon become simply a round structure and a depth of spices. Orange, clementine, lots of apricot. Peach and apricot pit. The fruit has vertical depth and substance, spreading across the entire width. The balance is superb." (Jancis Robinson 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Philippe Modat compensated for the thanklessness of his job as a clerk at the Commercial Court by reviving his wild gneiss lands in Caramany, with the help of his tireless manager Laurent Abet. Today, his sons Quentin and Louis have taken over, with many projects in mind. Impeccable viticulture, respectful winemaking, and the development of a range of wines: everything is falling into place to help the estate grow and evolve. Promising wines, a cellar full of ideas, and a welcome breath of fresh air blowing through an appellation that sorely needs it.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Of Catalan origin, Philippe Modat, a magistrate, is a knowledgeable wine lover, like his father, who also became a winegrower. This passion led to the creation of an estate in the Agly Valley in 2006: 27 hectares of vines on a plateau at an altitude of 300 meters, in conversion to organic farming since 2011 (8 hectares biodynamic) and an ecologically designed cellar equipped with photovoltaic cells, inaugurated in 2008.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended

About wine:

Aromatic nose of cooked lemons, apples, thyme, bay leaf, and chalk. It is medium-bodied and subtle. Silky and balanced, with a hint of minerality and a pleasant bitterness similar to that of almonds. The finish develops with precision. Roussanne, Grenache, Carignan Blanc, Macabeu, and Viognier. Made from organically grown grapes. Ready to drink or keep.
