"Delicious!"
“A flavorful, well-structured red with aromas of black cherry, redcurrant, warm herbs, and a hint of black pepper. It is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Refined, yet it displays verve and intensity on the palate. A juicy, concentrated finish with good length.” (James Suckling 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Philippe Modat made up for the thankless nature of his job as a clerk at the Commercial Court by breathing new life into his wild gneiss-based vineyards in Caramany, with the help of his tireless estate manager, Laurent Abet. Today, his sons Quentin and Louis have taken over, with many projects in mind. Impeccable viticulture, respectful winemaking, and the development of a diverse portfolio—everything is falling into place to help the estate grow and evolve. Promising wines, a cellar brimming with ideas, and a welcome breath of fresh air sweeping through an appellation that sorely needs it.

About the estate:
A native of Catalonia, Philippe Modat, a judge, is a knowledgeable wine enthusiast—just like his father, who also became a winemaker. This passion led to the establishment in 2006 of a vineyard in the Agly Valley: 27 hectares of vines on a plateau at an altitude of 300 meters, in the process of converting to organic farming since 2011 (8 hectares under biodynamic cultivation), and an eco-friendly winery equipped with solar panels, which opened in 2008.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Carignan and Syrah are vinified as whole clusters. Thanks to this blend and the gentle extraction technique, the wine exhibits a lovely body and juicy fruit notes of fresh fig and blueberry. This red wine offers elegant balance, supple tannins, and a well-rounded profile. (July–August 2025 issue)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 16,5/20
About the wine:
Aromas of cherry sorbet and lavender talcum powder. Bright, juicy, crimson fruit. Plump plums and pomegranate. Tannins dance through the fruit. So juicy it’s thirst-quenching. The kind of red you can even drink on a hot day, perhaps slightly chilled. Lots of va-va-voom.

It’s hard to resist such a charming Petit ModAt’mour, which in 2023 still boasts a splendid bouquet of tart red berries and blood oranges, enhanced by a pinch of sweet spices and a few toasty notes. The structure, both perfectly juicy and intensely rich, is harmonious, and we particularly appreciate its silky texture and underlying freshness, as well as its delicate and extremely savory finish. As the warm weather arrives, this lovely, approachable wine will pair perfectly with a Catalan-style tuna salad, followed by the first grilled red meats seasoned with garrigue herbs. Rating = 4.1.
