"Best seller"

This cuvée has a deep red color with ruby highlights. The intense yet subtle nose offers toasted notes on first impression, before opening up to reveal delicate notes of cherry, blackberry, sweet spices, and vanilla. The palate is smooth and silky. The full-bodied, dense palate is lined with velvety tannins. The peppery and licorice finish adds vibrancy and complexity.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on September 1, 2023

An enduring elixir from the sun-drenched Roussillon, caressed by the tramontane wind, in a sunny and complex 2019 vintage. The color and bouquet set the tone immediately upon opening after 2 hours of decanting: a dark garnet from which a myriad of intense aromas escape, found in a rich, sensual black nectar. The broad, full, and savory palate combines vigor and power on one hand, and finesse and tenderness on the other, blending harmoniously. Noble, well-integrated tannins support a profusion of fully ripe black fruits (cherry, blackcurrant, prune, wild blackberry), and notes of damp undergrowth, enhanced by a delicate, subtle woody touch with hints of coffee and vanilla. With abyssal depth, the fleshy, enveloping texture with its voluptuous velvety smoothness leaves in its broad wake an endless, captivating finish that is just as intense and flavorful with fruit, enriched by notes of bergamot and smoke. Sometimes I tell myself, in all humility, that it is good to return to the essentials, even if it means going against the current trend. Sometimes I also tell myself that “rather than eating quinoa while doing yoga,” it’s a delight to slip into the cracks to find an alternative to the great Gauby and other Clos des Fées, which are far more expensive to boot. Like this 2019 Elise, which has earned its reputation as Gem the Roussillon and to which I award a score of 4.5 without hesitation for its undeniably excellent value for money at €16.50! To my indescribable delight, this lovely, full-bodied Elise was paired with skewers of wild boar saddle marinated in garlic and garrigue herbs, along with diced carrots and pearl onions, cooked over the embers of vine shoots.

The nose is intense and refined, with woody notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and smooth, despite its 16% alcohol content. The tannins are velvety. I love the licorice finish.
