“'Great potential' (Tim Atkin)”
“Immense purity with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and wild berries, enhanced by notes of kirsch, rosemary, and thyme. The fine, powdery tannins provide excellent structure, and there is an almost choreographed tension with a salty, chalky touch on the finish.” (Tim Atkin 2023).

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100
Rated estate (2024 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)
About the wine:
This year, Muntada seems a bit sunnier, though there’s no doubt about the elegance of its texture. A wine to revisit in the future.
About the estate:
Since his early days in the mid-1980s, Gérard Gauby has been an inspiring, demanding, and passionate winemaker. His vines are cultivated with love and respect for the plants and the ecosystem. He has revealed to the world the complexity and potential of the Calce terroir, with its limestone and iron-rich schist soils. The winemaker has also successfully evolved his style toward wines that are less heavily aged, purer, and more ethereal. Alongside his son, he continues this quest, and his wines are gaining in expression and richness. The whites are of great integrity, with superb longevity and masterfully controlled aging. The reds are pure and deep. The 2021 vintage approaches the pinnacle of excellence in both styles.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 97/100
About the wine:
It’s hard to say exactly what these “other varieties” are, as Gérard Gauby notes that they are all planted together, though mainly Carignan and Mourvèdre. The vines are over 100 years old, and yields are ridiculously low, at around 11 hl/ha. Immense purity with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and wild berries, enhanced by notes of kirsch, rosemary, and thyme. The fine, powdery tannins provide excellent structure, and there is an almost choreographed tension with a salty, chalky touch on the finish. Like a coiled spring for now, but with great potential. 2023–2040
