About the estate:
Before going into business for himself in 2002, Daniel Laffite worked for 15 years at a large estate that had been farmed organically since 1972. He bought a portion of the estate and set up his own winery. Today, he manages 17 hectares alongside his wife, Cathy.

Domaine des Soulanes was founded in 2002 by Cathy and Daniel Laffite in the Maury region. The couple had previously worked these same vineyards for over ten years alongside the former owner before acquiring part of the estate. The vineyards are located at the foot of the rocky peaks dominated by the Château de Queribus. The estate’s wines are full-bodied yet balanced, energetic, and intense.

At first glance, a Maury that is all fruit and smoothness, yet doesn’t lack in body and depth despite its youthful character. More specifically, the palate is harmonious and sensual thanks to well-balanced sweetness and very round, velvety tannins that bring out a wide range of savory notes of Burlat plum, strawberry, and prune. A long, warm finish with subtle cocoa notes on the finish. Before a Yule log, this Maury paired perfectly with a dark chocolate cake with a molten center, served warm. Score = 4.1.
