Château Rombeau - Rivesaltes Ambré 2008 (50 cl)
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
“Amber in color with subtle green highlights, the appearance hints at the onset of rancio. The same is true of the open, complex nose, which plays on notes of spices, oak barrel patina, dried figs, brandied fruit, and nuts. On the palate, it is full-bodied and delicate, rich and fresh, with a silky texture. Aromas of dried fruit (apricot), smoke, and coffee develop, before giving way on the finish to licorice and a lingering nutty note, typical of rancio.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021)

About the wine:
Amber in color with subtle green highlights, the appearance hints at the onset of rancio. The same is true of the open, complex nose, which plays on notes of spices, oak barrel patina, dried figs, brandied fruit, and nuts. On the palate, it is full-bodied and delicate, rounded and fresh, with a silky texture. Aromas of dried fruit (apricot), smoke, and coffee develop, before giving way on the finish to licorice and a lingering nutty note, typical of rancio.
About the estate:
The Domaine de Rombeau has been in the family since 1810. Pierre-Henri de La Fabrègue, a well-known winemaker, restaurateur, and hotelier who took over the estate in 1993, has brought it to new heights. The estate’s 90 hectares—27 of which are organic—produce Muscat-de-Rivesaltes, Rivesaltes, and dry wines, both AOC and IGP. A wide-ranging production well known to readers of the Guide.

A full-bodied wine to be enjoyed on its own. The alcohol is noticeable but balanced by lovely citrus notes (blood orange). It has a lovely freshness that gives it a charming, youthful character.

Nice label, but the wine is just okay. I’ve had better from this appellation.
