wine for connoisseurs

"A wine from Savoie appreciated by connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike."

"Amethyst is a blend of Persan with 30% Mondeuse. The nose offers finely smoky notes with a strong spicy character, pepper, and juniper berries. The palate is rich, refined, and slender with beautiful complexity." (Le Guide RVF 2025). A wine to be forgotten for a few years in the cellar.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

This estate, launched in 1998 under the leadership of Michel Grisard, has brought two hillsides back into production. The ambitious project brought together 450 plots and 250 families. All of the wine is organic and labeled IGP Vin-des-Allobroges, as it did not receive the support of the Savoie appellation. Today, the 18 hectares managed by Brice Omont, who has just taken over an additional six hectares in Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte and Apremont, constitute a benchmark estate for the region. The wines are among the most expensive.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

Amethyst is a blend of Persan with 30% Mondeuse. The nose offers subtle smoky notes with a strong spicy character, pepper, and juniper berries. The palate is rich, refined, and elegant with beautiful complexity.

About the estate:

The estate was born out of the replanting of the Cevins hillside, undertaken in 1998 by Michel Grisard. It covers six hectares of terraced mica schist between Albertville and Moutiers. Brice Omont, an agricultural engineer from Champagne, arrived in 2003 to assist Grisard. He threw himself wholeheartedly into the project and, since 2008, has been at the helm of an estate that now covers 16 hectares. Biodynamic viticulture is heroic here (the slope can reach 70%), yields are very low, and the wines are mainly made from co-planted and blended grape varieties. The result is often admirable: the wines show great finesse and originality, further widening the gap as they age. The aging process is sometimes prominent in the expression of young wines when they are first opened, which is important to know because aeration releases their expression. Améthyste complements Persan with Mondeuse; the Argile cuvées (from the Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy hillside) combine Jacquère, Chardonnay, and Mondeuse Blanche for the white, and Gamay, Mondeuse, and Persan for the red. Schiste is composed of Jacquère, Mondeuse Blanche, Roussanne, and Pinot Gris. Only Quartz is a single varietal, made from Altesse. If there is one estate that symbolizes the qualitative renewal of Savoy and its ambition, it is this one.
