Its exceptional terroir and the careful tending of this plot result each year in this magical cuvée, unique in Savoie for its balance, structure, minerality, and concentration of aromas: blueberry, violet, sweet spices, and cedar. A great wine for aging!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

André and Daniel Genoux relaunched the family business in 2001. They bought and completely renovated the splendid 12th-century fortress that serves as the wine cellar. Wishing to reserve the Domaine Genoux brand for large-scale distribution, they promoted Château de Mérande: 12 hectares between Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte and Apremont (most of which is in Arbin), producing well-balanced, carefully crafted wines, mainly from Mondeuse grapes. In 2008, under the impetus of Yann Pernuit (a partner in the estate for 10 years), the vineyard was converted to biodynamic farming, and the wines have greatly improved, gaining in accuracy and depth. Intense and full-bodied, the Mondeuses are wines to keep.

Wine rated 17.5/20 (2017 vintage) (Great wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Committed to low yields and manual harvesting, brothers André and Daniel Genoux took over the Château de Mérande buildings in 2001. Committed to biodynamic farming, this estate located in the Arbin cru offers a wide range of wines from the surrounding hillsides and glacial moraines. Mondeuse dominates production, occupying two-thirds of the vineyard area. Vinification is now carried out using indigenous yeasts and without sulfur, often with whole clusters. The Latitude N45, La Noire, Le Comte Rouge, and La Belle Romaine cuvées brilliantly illustrate the current revival of the Savoyard vineyard and the immense potential of its emblematic red grape variety.
