This cuvée, made from Malbec grown on clay-limestone soils, has received no fewer than six Favorites the Guide Hachette over the years. Here is the sixth for a distinctive, powerful, and rich 2018 vintage. Deep purple in color, the wine exuberantly delivers aromas of black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant), kirsch, and morello cherry. On the palate, it is pure velvety smoothness, as the tannins melt into the dense texture. And the long finish, reminiscent of crushed strawberries, adds a final touch of seduction. A Cahors that is certainly ready to drink now, but also built to age.
About the estate:
One day... Stéphane Azémar, a trained architect, and Véronique, an archaeologist, left the Paris region in 1999 to settle on a small property in Duravel—a village sheltered from the north wind by a ring of hills—and make winemaking their livelihood. They manage their vineyard (7 hectares on the third terrace of the Lot) as a certified organic operation. They also produce saffron.

With its deep black color, this is definitely a Cahors! Already expressive on the nose and quite open on the palate, it became even more appealing after 24 hours of aeration; well-made and very pure, it still deserves some time to age.

Warning: this is a wine in a class of its own—not for just anyone. Complex, with structure, body, and the potential to age for several years… and all without oak aging. Velvety… rich… naturally, the glycerol is present with 15.5% alcohol and a powerful, inherent intensity. This wine leaves no one indifferent. Extraordinary with cassoulet or venison dishes in sauce... Powerful, flavorful dishes... to give it a worthy match. Go for it with your eyes closed.
