“Pure red fruit with lovely vanilla notes. The intense nose was certainly appealing. The palate is equally impressive: balanced, full-bodied, and structured by tannins that are prominent yet well-controlled. It pairs beautifully with a rib of beef or a Roquefort-style cheese. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022). Everything you’d expect from a good “Gascon” wine!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

Philippe Fezas has been tending to his vineyards since 1995, the year he took the plunge and added the role of winemaker to his position as a consultant for Seguin-Moreau. Committed to producing expressive wines sold to wine shops and fine restaurants, he carefully plans his vineyard layout, bucking the trend of surrounding production. His two slopes face the Pyrenees and feature a variety of soils ranging from fine clay (the Côte d’Heux) to more calcareous soils (white earth).

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2022) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

Pure red fruit with lovely vanilla notes. The intense aroma was certainly a hit. The palate is equally impressive: balanced, full-bodied, and structured by tannins that are distinct yet well-integrated. It pairs beautifully with a ribeye steak or a Roquefort-style cheese.

About the estate:

As the heir to four generations of winemakers who have been based here since 1893, Philippe Fezas looks out from his 50-hectare estate at the small 13th-century church in the nearby hamlet of Heux. A gentle breeze, the chiroula, blows through the rows of vines, drying the grapes that will yield exceptional flocs, Armagnacs, and Côtes de Gascogne. A sure bet.
