“Produced by the estate of Madiran’s master winemaker, Alain Brumont, this wine is a rich blend of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Still very young but with great potential, it is a full-bodied wine with aromas of black fruit and spices that perfectly captures the grandeur of Madiran. The tannins are still dense, and the wine needs plenty of time. Best enjoyed starting in 2024.” (Wine Enthusiast 2020)

To be compared to the Pétrus of the Southwest—a bit of a letdown, though.

A medium-deep cherry-red color with an orange rim. On the nose, ripe, sun-kissed red and dark fruit—cherries, strawberries, and plums. Along with notes of forest soil, undergrowth, spices, and green herbs like celery and lovage. On the palate, plenty of ripe fruit, a lovely sweetness on the attack, followed immediately by plenty of freshness and then beautiful spiciness. Grip, body, fine acidity, soft tannins, tension, conviction, and that distinctive character of Bouscassé and Alain Brumont. Wow, what a beauty, and with great finesse too. Score: 17+/20 (4.3)
