The region of theOlifants River consists of 5 districts and zones (two levels of subdivision within the wine region): the districts of Lutzville Valley, Citrusdal Mountain, and Citrudal Valley, as well as the zones of Koekenaap, Bamboes Bay, and Piekenierskloof.
The soils in this region are limestone, alluvial, and red sandy. TheOlifants River region is primarily planted with white grape varieties (Chenin, Colombard, Muscat of Alexandria, etc.), but also includes red varieties (Shiraz, Pinotage, etc.).
