riesling

pan-fried foie gras

The Rosenberg Late Harvest Riesling 2020 comes from vines over 50 years old located in a plot called Pfleck within the Rosenberg. It was harvested in three stages: at maturity, with partial botrytis and with full botrytis. The nose blends orange peel with ripe peach and adds a touch of lemon. The palate has a peachy roundness due to the botrytis, edged with apricot compote. The finish is wonderfully taut, bright, lively and defined by a glorious thread of lemon. Exciting and sweet, but not overly so, with 72g/L of residual sugar." (Vinous 2023)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Jacky Barthelmé sums it up bluntly: "We are very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker's vintage. Those who were in the vineyards got grapes. It didn't happen by itself. " And it must be said that tasting the range proves him right: the Pinot Noirs are as successful as ever, the Rieslings are beautiful, and even the Pinot Gris wines are more dry than in the past, which can only delight us.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About the estate:

The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, two great winemaking dynasties since the 17th century, produces wines of the highest quality, emblematic of the very best that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic farmer and part-time water diviner, has brought purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine have a keen sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their digestibility, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds are at the top of Alsatian production and among the finest in France. This success has made them rare wines.

About wine:

This Riesling is extremely pure, with vibrant aromas of Amalfi lemon and yellow peach. There is a wonderful interplay between very mineral acidity, refined fruit, and delicate sweetness for this category. The brilliant finish gives the impression of landing in an endless loop of Mozart's Queen of the Night aria! Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now or cellar.
