"A Gewurztraminer with a bright future!"
The Gewurztraminer Alsace Grand Cru Furstentum 2022 opens with a deep, pure, perfectly ripe, intense, and concentrated Gewürztraminer nose that is also refined, intertwined with notes of crushed limestone. Full-bodied and generous while remaining pure and saline, this is a rich yet refined, elegant and very precise Gewürztraminer from one of the grape's favorite locations, Furstentum. It is delicately bitter on the mineral and almost peppery finish, which has an almost dry taste." (Wine Advocate 2025)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Jacky Barthelmé sums it up bluntly: "We are very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker's vintage. Those who were in the vineyards got grapes. It didn't happen by itself. " And it must be said that tasting the range proves him right: the Pinot Noirs are as successful as ever, the Rieslings are beautiful, and even the Pinot Gris wines are more dry than in the past, which can only delight us.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 95/100
Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About wine:
Equally spicy and refined, Gewurztraminer seduces with its straightforwardness and intensity, with well-integrated sugars that respect the identity of the terroir.
About the estate:
The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, two great winemaking dynasties since the 17th century, produces wines of the highest quality, emblematic of the very best that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic farmer and part-time water diviner, has brought purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine have a keen sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their digestibility, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds are at the top of Alsatian production and among the finest in France. This success has made them rare wines.

About wine:
The Gewurztraminer Furstentum Grand Cru 2022 comes from the estate's mass selection, chosen for its ability to retain its acidity. Ripe mirabelle plum and juicy peach are the first notes on the nose, followed by a subtle hint of rose petal. The palate also delves into these fruits, reminiscent of Reine Claude plums and peach compote. It is sweet with 45 g/L of residual sugar, but like the ripest and most fleshy fruit, edged with a beautiful lemon. There is lightness, brightness, and harmonious balance here. (Medium)

About wine:
This extremely concentrated Gewürztraminer really shows what overripe grapes do to wines made from this highly underrated grape variety. Like pomelo essence. Very compact core in which the ample, fine tannins and a touch of bitterness are already beautifully integrated. Very long finish and barely dry, which is crazy for a wine with 45 g/L of residual sugar. Aging potential of several decades. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now or keep.
