Riesling

pan-fried foie gras

"The 2020 Rosenberg Riesling Vendanges Tardives comes from vines over 50 years old located in a plot called Pfleck within the Rosenberg vineyard. It was harvested in three separate passes: at full ripeness, with partial botrytis, and with full botrytis. The nose blends orange peel with ripe peach and adds a touch of lemon. The palate offers a peachy roundness from the botrytis, framed by apricot compote. The finish is wonderfully taut, brilliant, lively, and defined by a glorious hint of lemon. Exciting and sweet, but not overly so, with 72g/L of residual sugar.” (Vinous 2023)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

Jacky Barthelmé puts it bluntly: “We’re very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker’s vintage. Those who were out in the vineyards got the grapes. It didn’t happen on its own. ” And it’s clear that tasting the lineup proves him right: Pinot Noirs as successful as ever, Rieslings of great beauty, and even Pinot Gris wines that display a drier balance than in the past—which can only delight us.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)

About the estate:

The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families—two distinguished lines of winemakers dating back to the 17th century—produces wines of the very highest caliber, emblematic of the finest that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic winemaker and occasional dowser, has brought purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine possess a highly refined sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their approachability, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds rank among the very best of Alsace and are among the finest in France. This success has now made them rare wines.

About the wine:

This Riesling is exceptionally pure, with vibrant aromas of Amalfi lemon and yellow peach. It features a wonderful interplay between a very mineral acidity, refined fruit, and a delicate sweetness for this category. The brilliant finish feels like stepping into an endless loop of Mozart’s Queen of the Night aria! Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now or celller.
