“Superb in its smoothness and length, very delicate in its spicy profile (RVF)”
“Remarkably fresh, delicate, and dry for a grand cru made from this grape variety. A perfect balance between a creamy richness that’s well-restrained and a lively, silky acidity. Not overly concentrated, but beautifully balanced. I love the aromas of mirabelle plum, honeysuckle, and melon. A long, clean, and graceful finish.” (James Suckling 2025)

Rated estate (2024 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Jacky Barthelmé puts it bluntly: “We’re very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker’s vintage. Those who were out in the vineyards got the grapes. It didn’t happen on its own. ” And it’s clear from tasting the lineup that he’s right: Pinot Noirs that are as successful as ever, Rieslings of great beauty, and even Pinot Gris wines that show a drier balance than in the past—which can only delight us.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 95/100
Rated estate (2024 guide): 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience.)
About the wine:
The Pinot Gris from the same terroir is quite dry yet full-bodied, superbly smooth with a long finish, and very delicate in its spicy notes.
About the estate:
The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families—two distinguished lines of winemakers dating back to the 17th century—produces wines of the very highest caliber, emblematic of the finest that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic winemaker and occasional dowser, has succeeded in bringing purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine possess a highly refined sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their approachability, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds rank among the very best of Alsace and are among the finest in France. This success has now made them rare wines.

This wine is impeccably balanced and pure. Notes of yellow and even exotic fruits are present, and a lovely minerality gives it a vibrant character that makes it unique. For lovers of great white wines, the fruit is, of course, the star. I love it.
