Wine rated (2025 guide) 96/100
Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
Richly aromatic, Schoenenbourg boasts impressive body: while full of restrained power, it remains light and smooth in texture, with a particularly indulgent finish.
About the estate:
The perfectionist Jean-Christophe Bott is one of Alsace’s leading winemakers. He is dedicated to meticulous work both in the cellar and in the vineyard, which is cultivated using biodynamic methods. While the estate consisted of just 4 hectares when it was founded in 1953, it now spans 15 hectares across seven communes. The wines here are full-bodied and smooth, their richness well-balanced without the slightest heaviness, particularly in the Pinot Gris, which is definitely worth rediscovering. Each cuvée possesses both power and a long finish, two qualities that lead to a sense of fullness. To top it all off, the estate offers older vintages for sale and has recently begun renting out vacation homes.

About the wine:
The 2020 Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru, harvested from the mid-slope, comes from vines aged 30 to 60 years, rooted in marl and gypsum soils. Its dusty, mineral-driven nose is enlivened by zesty lemon notes. It is intensely concentrated and deep, yet remains light, linear, and serene. This is an elegant, refined, crystalline Riesling, yet superbly smooth. (Very dry)

About the wine:
Enticing aromas of spicy citrus, ripe peaches, dried tarragon, lavender, and jasmine, with a stony minerality. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, compact and textured on the palate, with a creamy texture and floral and peachy notes. A savory finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Ready to drink or suitable for aging.

About the wine:
Subtle yet intense, the bouquet of the 2020 Schoenenbourg reveals notes of stone fruit, anise, fresh bread, puff pastry, flint, and white flowers. And since this isn’t a contest to list as many aromas as possible, I’ll stop here! The attack immediately creates a link between freshness and ripeness, between the wine’s incisive structure and its delicate body. The wine is imposing in both its energy and its fullness. An inviting, compelling wine that inspires joy and is even refreshing. Magnificent! 2028–2054
