Wine rating (2021 guide) 96/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

The purity and intensity of Sporen are striking: this is a sparkling wine, bursting with energy, whose sapidity will transport you far away.

About the estate:

Perfectionist Jean-Christophe Bott is one of Alsace's leading winemakers. He is committed to rigorous work in the cellar and in the vineyard, which is cultivated biodynamically. While it only covered 4 hectares when it was founded in 1953, the estate now has 15 hectares spread across seven communes. The wines here are full-bodied and smooth, with well-controlled richness and no heaviness whatsoever, particularly the Pinot Gris, which is definitely worth rediscovering. Each cuvée has both power and length on the palate, two qualities that lead to fullness. To top it all off, the estate offers slightly older vintages for sale and has recently started renting out cottages.

About wine:

The aroma of dried lemon zest and a hint of crushed yarrow blend with notes of soft apple on the nose. The palate is concentrated yet slender. Something sweet and fragrant gives these sensual notes of citrus and aromatic herbs. This wine is fresh yet soothing, with a beautifully dry and intense finish.
