Wine rated (2021 guide) 94/100

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

With the essence of ripe fruit, the Sonnenglanz Pinot Gris is vibrant and lush, yet its sharp finish hints at its great aging potential. It easily ranks among the very select elite of the finest Pinot Gris wines.

About the estate:

The perfectionist Jean-Christophe Bott is one of Alsace’s leading winemakers. He is dedicated to meticulous work both in the cellar and in the vineyard, which is cultivated using biodynamic methods. While the estate consisted of just 4 hectares when it was founded in 1953, it now spans 15 hectares across seven communes. The wines here are full-bodied and smooth, their richness well-balanced without the slightest heaviness, particularly in the Pinot Gris, which is definitely worth rediscovering. Each cuvée possesses both power and a long finish, two qualities that lead to a sense of fullness. To top it all off, the estate offers older vintages for sale and has recently begun renting out vacation homes.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

Rated estate (2020 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

In addition to its subtle notes of Williams pear on the nose, this wine also features heady pear aromas reminiscent of pear brandy. On the palate, it offers a concentrated and juicy texture that serves as a backdrop for this array of pear notes. Its intensity and pleasant bitterness, reminiscent of fresh walnut skins, are enticing. The finish is intense and slightly dry. Best enjoyed before 2040.
