“Let yourself be surprised by the nuances of this orange wine”

“Partially macerated, the Moenchberg Pinot Gris should never be served too cold. Its balance is a tour de force; its luminous, slender, and voluptuous body dances on the palate and lingers in a spicy, caressing finish.” (Le Guide RVF 2024).

Wine rated (2024 guide) 96/100 Favorite

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)

About the wine:

Partially macerated, the Moenchberg Pinot Gris should never be served too cold. Its balance is a true feat; its luminous, slender, and voluptuous body dances on the palate and lingers in a spicy, caressing finish.

About the estate:

Antoine, the son of Marc Kreydenweiss, has been at the helm of this estate in Andlau since 2007; it is among the pioneers of biodynamics in Alsace. The diversity of the estate’s terroirs and their subtle interpretation have always been a strong point here, further enhanced by the changes Antoine has implemented (slower pressing and extended aging on the lees). The risks taken in vinifying many cuvées without sulfur (or with minimal levels) have paid off and result in no flaws whatsoever. A small range of wines made from purchased organic grapes has been launched under the label Lune à Boire. The Pinot Noir and macerated wines (not rated) are of the highest caliber. The standards have returned to the highest level with wines of rare vitality, and continue to deepen, with ambitious four-year aging for the 2017 Grand Cru Rieslings. These exciting wines, of rare vitality, have earned the estate its third star this year.

Review by Mr. HERVE G. Posted on 11/10/2025

Cloudy, no aroma—impossible to identify as Pinot Gris. Tasted with eight guests, and the verdict was unanimous. It’s incomprehensible that the wine guides give it such high scores... I do love the estate’s Rieslings, but honestly, for an orange wine at this price—what a scandal!
