"A truly great terroir wine (Yves Beck)"
Kastelberg Grand Cru 2021 is generous on the nose, elegant, remarkably aromatic and iodized, displaying intense aromas of small yellow fruits such as mirabelle plums and quinces. The full-bodied, refined and salty palate is a dense, complex, crystalline and salty Riesling with a concentrated fruit core, masses of minerals and fine but serious tannins. It is a great, expressive wine that represents the vintage and the rocky soils well. The wine is exceptionally open and full of salts and minerals" (Wine Advocate 2025).

About wine:
Grown on Hornfels terroir, the Kastelberg Grand Cru 2021 is generous on the nose, elegant, remarkably aromatic and iodized, displaying intense aromas of small yellow fruits such as mirabelle plums and quinces. Full-bodied, refined and salty on the palate, this is a dense, complex, crystalline and salty Riesling with a concentrated fruity core, masses of minerals and fine but serious tannins. It is a great, expressive wine that represents the vintage and the rocky soils well. The wine is exceptionally open and full of salts and minerals thanks to a yield of only 22 to 23 hectoliters per hectare.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About wine:
Sapid and nourishing, Kastelberg is very distinctive, with 45 months of aging taking it far: a chiseled, firm wine, very immature but with phenomenal length.
About the estate:
Antoine, Marc Kreydenweiss's son, has been at the helm of this estate in Andlau since 2007, one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Alsace. The variety of terroirs on the estate and their subtle interpretation has always been a strong point here, reinforced by the changes implemented by Antoine (slower pressing and prolonged aging on lees). The risks taken in vinifying a number of cuvées without sulfur (or with minimal levels) are paying off and do not result in the slightest defect. A small range of wines made from purchased organic grapes has been created under the name Lune à Boire. The Pinot Noir and macerated wines (not rated) are of the highest quality. Standards have returned to their highest level with wines of rare vitality, and continue to improve, with ambitious four-year aging for the 2017 Riesling grands crus. These exciting wines, with their rare vitality, have earned the estate its third star this year.

About wine:
A small, very steep and stony 5.5-hectare terroir composed of black and red schist. Aged for two years, including one year in oak barrels and one year in stainless steel vats. Superb bouquet marked by notes of anise, chamomile, and licorice, followed by hints of peach. Good density on the palate, where the wine displays a generous yet incisive character. Lots of temperament surrounded by richness and sharp acidity. The texture is broad and compact. A very great terroir wine that manages to express its DNA independently of the vintage by adapting its character to the circumstances. 2025-2055
