Domaine Cordier - Beaujolais-Villages Les Grandes Plantes 2012

2*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

Note: Guide Hachette 2** (Remarkable Wine) + Editor’s Choice
“Christophe Cordier proves himself just as talented with Gamay, as evidenced by this 2012 vintage, which delighted the grand jury and boasts an intense, brilliant garnet color. The nose releases powerful notes of blackcurrant and spices. The palate, round and full-bodied, delivers aromas of black fruits with a hint of vanilla. Harmonious and very concentrated, this Beaujolais-Villages has aging potential for several years and will pair wonderfully with roast chicken.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

Rated estate (2016 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

A workaholic with a passion for terroirs, Christophe Cordier is always on the move, with his businesses constantly expanding—both the family estate and his wine trading operations. In both cases, he has invested in state-of-the-art facilities that are rare in the region, at the cutting edge of oenological innovation. The vineyard-specific approaches are precise and the aging styles are diversifying, but the sometimes excessive oakiness still masks the expression of certain vintages.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 2** stars (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

Christophe Cordier is known for his Mâcon whites and his Pouilly-Fuissé. This Chardonnay expert has ventured into the wine merchant business to develop a line of reds. He proves to be just as talented with Gamay, as evidenced by this 2012 vintage, which delighted the grand jury and boasts an intense, brilliant garnet color. The nose releases powerful notes of blackcurrant and spices. The palate, round and full-bodied, delivers aromas of black fruit with a hint of vanilla. Harmonious and very concentrated, this Beaujolais-Villages has aging potential for several years and will pair wonderfully with roast chicken.

Rated estate (2015 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Founded in 1945, the Cordier estate was taken over by Roger Cordier in 1971. The arrival of his son Christophe at his side a little over five years ago has not altered the wines’ exemplary style in the slightest. The estate has remained at the top of its game for many years.
