wine for connoisseurs

This Beaujolais-Villages Vieilles Vignes comes from high-altitude vines planted on sandy, granite-rich soil midway up the hillside, which promotes rapid ripening—making this undoubtedly the earliest-ripening area in Beaujolais. Whole-cluster vinification is essential to ensure that this cuvée fully expresses the fruit and complexity of the small plot of land where it was grown.

In my opinion, he’s among the top five most exciting winemakers in Beaujolais. This wine is a great introduction to his style. The winemaking is superb, even for an entry-level wine.

With a style decidedly more Beaujolais than "Tentation," the VV wines exude the purity of Gamay and invite indulgence. Fine tannins and a velvety texture fill the palate and linger into a long, lingering finish, with a sense of lightness. It is very well made and remarkably balanced. It is so juicy and smooth that one glass leads to another, if you’re not careful. With its formidable appeal, this easy-drinking Beaujolais will pair perfectly as an aperitif or with a cannelloni gratin au bruccio. Score = 3.8.
