Rating: RVF 18/20, Bettane & Desseauve 17/20
“Very concentrated, with aromas of black fruit and menthol on the palate, and substantial tannins that still need to mellow; this vintage confirms all the promise shown in 2009. The price remains affordable for this level of quality. ” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2013)

About the estate:
This iconic Beaujolais estate, renowned for both its history and its reputation, shines as a beacon over Morgon and the Beaujolais region. The vineyard spans 13 hectares, five of which are located on the Côte de Py. At the helm of the estate, Claude-Emmanuelle and her brother Louis-Benoît, renowned for their rigor and attention to detail, are the worthy successors to a tradition of excellence. The latest vintages, blending finesse and richness, are always elegant.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)
About the estate:
Anyone who has tasted a wine from the Desvignes siblings—Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît—has experienced a special emotion. Here, the pursuit of aesthetic excellence focuses on the subtle expression of specific vineyard sites (primarily in Morgon), the right balance of structure according to the vintage, and aging potential—all stemming from meticulous viticulture, sensitive winemaking free from dogma, and refined, wood-free aging. The third star has been pinned to the estate’s lapel for several years now, and given the consistency and coherence of the range, we suspect it will remain there for many years to come.

Concentrated with a deep color. The nose is somewhat closed. On the palate, the initial attack reveals strong minerality that is (too) reminiscent of Morgon’s iron-rich clay soils. A bit confusing, even disappointing. However, as it develops, it becomes much more pleasant and expressive. This wine should be opened and allowed to breathe for at least an hour before tasting.
