"A precise blend of 7 parcels
"It's like entering a clearing where the ground is covered with violets. Juiciness, velvety tannins and elegant acidity create a very satisfying, medium-bodied whole on the palate. The fresh, moderately dry finish has a good stony minerality and makes you want more." (James Suckling 2025)

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
Château Thivin is currently renovating its vineyards, with a focus on soil management. In organic conversion, trellising on the steepest plots, such as La Chapelle, is now the rule. The range is wide: fruity whites and reds, Côte de Brouilly (Sept Vignes, Griottes de Brulhié). The magnificent trio of Godefroy, Chapelle and Zaccharie particularly impressed and moved us this year. A priority for wine lovers and an address for great wines.

About the wine:
Côte de Brouilly Les Sept Vignes 2023 offers aromas of black cherry, spicy ginger and dried purple petals. Full-bodied and concentrated, the wine opens with breadth, finding more structure in the mid-palate, influenced by a layer of chalky tannins that accumulate as it progresses, finishing on a satisfying and lasting impression of wet stones.
About the domain :
This historic estate continues to set the standard for classic Beaujolais cru worthy of its age, and the 2019 vintage is a great success here. As I wrote last year, the Geoffrays have banned herbicides and insecticides from their vineyards and are among the most conscientious farmers in the appellation, working towards organic certification. In the cellar, vinification is traditional, with semi-carbonic maceration and ageing generally in tuns - although some smaller cuvées see a little new wood. A staple of France's finest restaurants - and this writer's table - all readers unfamiliar with these wines are urged to seek them out. This year, the Brouilly Reverdon deserves a special mention, as it's a particularly fine wine.

About the wine:
Rich and sweet. Smooth and lively. Very satisfying, but a little riper than most. Slightly mellow on the finish (JR).

About the wine:
Côte de Brouilly Les sept vignes 2023 is aged in 40 hectoliter tuns. It has a well-defined mineral bouquet, with pure aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry and wild strawberry. It becomes more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and consistent, with higher acidity than you'd expect and a hint of cracked black pepper on the finish. An excellent wine.

Supple and full-bodied, the tannins are present, slightly taut, but fine and satiny. In its youth, it releases a slippery juice with notes of burlat cherries and sweet spices, and a lovely liveliness with mineral freshness. Peppery, salivating finish. Still needs time to fully develop. We also appreciate the label's old-fashioned charm. A great classic, to be enjoyed after aeration with crispy honey-spiced pork belly. Score = 4.
