Domaine Benjamin Passot
Originally from Burgundy, Benjamin Passot trained at a winery in Vosne-Romanée for several years before establishing his own winery in 2017. As a natural progression, he moved further south to the Beaujolais region and began his career as a winemaker with one hectare of vineyards in the heart of Juliénas. Starting from scratch, Benjamin Passot purchased his
first Juliénas vineyard, Les Escuissin, and shortly thereafter the Juliénas Vaux plot. His first vintage, 2017, bore fruit notably with the
Juliénas Vaux (Vayolette) cuvée, which represented the appellation at the 2019 Salon de l’Agriculture
and received a 2** Favorite rating Favorite 2021 Hachette Guide. Passionate and determined to succeed, year after year he acquires carefully selected plots that are close to his heart, both for their history and the richness of their terroir.
This explains it all. Based on this principle, Benjamin Passot carries out a plot-by-plot approach that makes the wine unique. Thus, the vinification and aging
allow the distinct character of each plot to shine through. All the vintages are harvested
by hand with pruning shears to avoid damaging the fruit. Over time, he has succeeded in adapting the
winemaking process, inspired by Burgundy, to this surprisingly rich terroir. Each vintage
is aged exclusively in barrels.
In the vineyards, Benjamin practices uncertified organic farming and likes to leave clover and organic matter in the soil.
His estate now comprises 2.5 hectares of vineyards in Juliénas, Chiroubles, and Chénas, and will soon expand to 2.7 hectares with the upcoming acquisition of a plot in Moulin-à-Vent.
A true young winemaker to watch.
