Domaine Benjamin Passot
Originally from Burgundy, Benjamin Passot trained at an estate in Vosne Romanée for several years before setting up his own estate in 2017. Continuing in the same vein, he moved further south to Beaujolais and began his work as a winegrower with 1 hectare of vines in the heart of Juliénas. Starting from scratch, Benjamin Passot bought his
first vineyard, Juliénas les Escuissin, and shortly afterwards the Juliénas Vaux plot. His first vintage in 2017 was particularly successful, with the
Juliénas Vaux (Vayolette) cuvée representing the appellation at the 2019 agricultural show
and received a 2** Favorite rating Favorite 2021 Hachette Guide. Passionate and eager to do his job well, year after year he buys beautiful, hand-picked plots that are close to his heart, both in terms of their history and the richness of their terroir.
This explains it. Based on this principle, Benjamin Passot carries out a parcel-by-parcel approach that makes the wine unique. Thus, the vinification and vatting
allow the typical characteristics of each parcel to be obtained. All the vintages are harvested
by hand and with secateurs so as not to damage the fruit. Over time, he has succeeded in adapting the
vinification process, inspired by Burgundy, to this surprisingly rich terroir. Each vintage
is aged exclusively in barrels.
In the vineyards, Benjamin works organically without certification and likes to leave clover and nutrients in the soil.
His estate now has 2.5 hectares of vines in Juliénas, Chiroubles, and Chénas, and will soon have 2.7 hectares with the upcoming acquisition of a plot in Moulin-à-Vent.
A young winemaker to watch.
