2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
“Pale to medium lemon-gold in color, the 2016 Haut Coustet bursts from the glass with bold aromas of green mango, guava, and pineapple paste, along with hints of clover honey, peach blossoms, and jasmine. On the palate, it is incredibly intense and richly fruity, with a pleasantly rich texture and great freshness, leading to a long, toasty finish.” (Wine Advocate 2019 – Robert Parker). Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the wine:
A traditional Sauternes, whose golden-yellow, slightly amber hue hints at the concentration of its bouquet. The bouquet blends aromas of quince, candied fruit, and gingerbread (cloves). Despite its richness and opulence, the wine remains harmonious on the palate, offering flavors of exotic fruits enhanced by toasty notes. Pair this wine with the finest cheeses or enjoy it as a dessert in its own right.
About the estate:
Philippe Mercadier honed his expertise over the course of twenty-five years as director of Château Suduiraut. That experience now benefits his three Sauternes wines, which he manages with the help of his two sons: Château Haut Coustet, Château Pechon, and Château Tuyttens.

About the estate:
Excerpt from the November 2021 issue of Terre de Vins: Vignobles Mercadier, a Success Story in the Sauternes Region. The Sauternes appellation is undergoing a major transformation, aiming to offer wines that are more accessible and easier to drink without losing any of their wonderful aromatic complexity. This is a path that many winemakers have successfully taken. At a time when some are choosing to diversify their portfolios, Paul and Émilie Mercadier—owners of several châteaux—are committed solely to Sauternes, out of conviction. The challenge was to win over customers and make sales—and that is exactly what the couple has done, with considerable success. What’s their secret?

A wine that is sweeter than it is syrupy, no doubt due to its freshness and delicate aromas of exotic fruits. The palate is very well-balanced. It is full of finesse and lacks any heaviness.

An excellent Sauternes with fruitiness, depth, and a very long finish. The sweetness isn't overpowering. Unbeatable value for the price.

Powerful, round, and voluptuous, with flavors of apricot, citrus marmalade, and melon. A good balance between acidity and residual sugar. A long finish with a hint of honey. A lovely Sauternes at an unbeatable price. So why not enjoy it regularly—for example, with Roquefort puff pastries served on a bed of watercress and walnut kernels?
