“The wines are overseen by an excellent team led by Nicolas Lesaint, a brilliant winemaker and artist to boot. The bouquet unfolds slowly and subtly, revealing inviting fruity and spicy notes. It is on the palate that Reignac truly shines, once again demonstrating its exceptional quality. The tannins are compact, very fine, and reach their full expression on the finish. A truly outstanding wine that requires patience or decanting for at least an hour when young. A truly outstanding wine.” (Yves Beck 2021). Don’t focus on its appellation—this Bordeaux Supérieur has already outperformed the greatest wines in a blind tasting!

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot are part of a generation of business leaders who became winemakers some twenty years ago. They have significantly enhanced the potential of this estate, both in the vineyard and in the winery. With the guidance of Michel Rolland, they produce red and white wines of exemplary quality and consistency, which rank them among the appellation’s leading producers.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2023) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
About the wine:
Built around rich, pure, and expressive fruit, this red wine is instantly appealing. We love its structure, its ripe, velvety tannins, its smoothness, and its lingering aroma. What more could you ask for?

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the estate:
This year, Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot celebrated their 30th anniversary at the helm of Reignac. From the very beginning, the couple has gone all out to position their superior Bordeaux wines at the highest level, following the advice of Michel Roland. With the arrival of director Nicolas Lesaint in 2009, cultivation methods have evolved to align more closely with organic practices. This work is beginning to show in the wines, despite aging that is still somewhat intrusive. Extractions are more precise thanks to six small truncated-cone vats designed to match the specific characteristics of each vineyard plot.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
Reignac 2019 offers a lovely, well-defined nose of wild red berries, with hints of rose petals and forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and classic in style, with fine tannins, lively acidity, and black fruit accented by notes of charcoal and toast on the finish. Excellent. 2024–2042

Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
The 2019 Grand Vin de Reignac, which has proven magnificent in barrel and now in bottle. It displays a dense purple-ruby color, along with an elegant and incredibly impressive bouquet of blackcurrant, smoked tobacco, damp earth, graphite, and pencil lead. Drinking like a great Médoc, it is medium-bodied to full-bodied, with a complex and elegant palate, magnificent tannins, and a superb finish. If you want to surprise your friends during a blind tasting (or if you simply want to drink a brilliant wine), don’t miss this gem—it’s well worth the detour. It will age for 10 to 15 years. This is the best vintage I’ve tasted, and I may even be conservative in my rating. 2022–2037
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
The vineyard dedicated to Reignac’s Grand Vin covers 45 hectares. The soils are clay-gravel and clay-limestone. Planting density is 6,600 vines per hectare. In 2019, the yield barely reached 27 hectoliters per hectare. The wines are overseen by an excellent team led by Nicolas Lesaint, a brilliant winemaker and, moreover, an artist. The bouquet unfolds slowly and subtly, revealing inviting fruity and spicy notes. It is on the palate that Reignac truly demonstrates its caliber, which is, once again, exceptional. The tannins are compact, very fine, and reach their full expression on the finish. A truly beautiful wine that requires patience or decanting for at least an hour when young. A truly beautiful wine. 2024–2039
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2022 guide) 93-94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is aromatic, displaying a lovely fine texture, intensity, and precision, along with an elegant and appealing range of aromas. It features notes of juicy blackberry, ripe wild strawberry, and, more subtly, ripe blackcurrant, combined with delicate hints of morello cherry, violet, and lily, along with subtle hints of licorice, black tea, very subtle saline notes, and a touch of pepper and fresh clove. The palate is fresh and mineral, offering richness, roundness, luscious fruit, a delicate acidic backbone, a lovely tannic structure, elegance, and a beautiful definition and mouthfeel. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of vibrant Boysenberry, juicy blueberry, and a hint of violet, combined with touches of morello cherry, licorice, chocolate, Bourbon vanilla bean, as well as subtle hints of black tea, nutmeg, and a hint of roasted hazelnut. The tannins are elegant, structuring, refined, and well-integrated. Good length. Lovely freshness, definition, and complexity.

A silky, rich wine that’s very pleasant on the palate, with good length. Just the kind of terroir we love.

The color is deep. The nose is fruity with generous spicy notes. It features notes of blackberry, black berries, and subtle hints of blackcurrant, combined with a touch of oak. The palate offers flavors of red and black fruits—blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, strawberry, and plum—accompanied by light notes of chocolate and licorice. The tannins are refined, with a lingering finish featuring toasted notes.

Excellent! No wonder it outperformed some great—even exceptional—wines in a blind tasting; I had the same experience a long time ago with a “modest” Bordeaux from Mr. Roumage, a Château Lestrille.
