R de Reignac - Bordeaux Supérieur 2021

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot are part of a generation of business leaders who became winemakers about twenty years ago. They have greatly enhanced the potential of this estate, both in the vineyard and in the cellars. With the guidance of Michel Rolland, they produce red and white wines of exemplary quality and consistency, which rank them among the appellation’s leaders.

 

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot celebrated their 30th anniversary at the helm of Reignac this year. From the very beginning, the couple has gone all out to position their Bordeaux Supérieurs at the highest level by following the advice of Michel Roland. With the arrival of director Nicolas Lesaint in 2009, cultivation methods have evolved to align more closely with organic practices. This effort is beginning to show in the wines, despite aging practices that are still somewhat intrusive. Extraction is more precise thanks to six small truncated-cone-shaped tanks designed to reflect the specific characteristics of each vineyard plot.

This bouquet is very inviting, with notes of blueberries and spices. On the palate, the wine dances with joy and revives any tired palate! A fruity, juicy, elegant, and refreshing wine. Very good glou-glou! Now – 2025

The nose is elegant and precise, offering a certain intensity and aromatic purity. It is both powerful and delicate. It features notes of vibrant wild blackcurrant, Boysenberry, and, more subtly, Madagascar pepper, combined with hints of vibrant wild raspberry, small berries, and subtle hints of star anise, spices, and a very discreet, almost sap-like note. On the palate, it is fruity and balanced, offering juiciness, minerality, good definition, aromatic purity, a tangy structure, a certain richness, elegant tension, lovely finesse in its profile, and a light, airy quality to its balance. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy, juicy blackcurrant, cherry, and, more subtly, fresh raspberry, combined with hints of lily, as well as subtle notes of dried almond, star anise, a discreet hint of cola, cherry blossom, and a subtle hint of vanilla in the background. Good length, savory depth, harmony, and a rich, indulgent character. The tannins are supple and elegant.
