“One of Yves Vatelot’s most powerful Reignacs, this modern-style 2009 offers a rich texture and notes of coffee beans, blackcurrant, earth, and vanilla against a delicious, surprisingly deep and full-bodied backdrop. Best enjoyed within 5 to 6 years.” (Wine Advocate – Robert Parker). A bouquet with powerful aromas of blackcurrant, spices, vanilla, and toast... Delicious!

Rated estate (2023 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

This highly successful Bordeaux, with great potential, offers an exuberant nose of black fruits, mellow spices, and elegant oak, with a perfectly structured, flattering, flavorful, and very well-balanced palate.

About the estate:

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot are part of a generation of business leaders who became winemakers about twenty years ago. They have greatly enhanced the potential of this estate, both in the vineyard and in the cellars. With guidance from Michel Rolland, they produce red and white wines of exemplary quality and consistency, which rank them among the appellation’s leaders.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2009 vintage is very appealing and well-rounded, with a high level of maturity

About the estate:

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot celebrated their 30th anniversary at the helm of Reignac this year. From the very beginning, the couple has gone all out to position their Bordeaux Supérieurs at the highest level by following Michel Roland’s advice. With the arrival of director Nicolas Lesaint in 2009, cultivation methods have evolved to align more closely with organic practices. This effort is beginning to show in the wines, despite aging practices that are still somewhat intrusive. Extraction is more precise thanks to six small truncated-cone-shaped tanks, which allow for a more precise reflection of the individual vineyard plots.

Wine rated (2010 guide) 88-91/100 (Very good wine)

About the wine:

A lovely nose of blueberries and coffee beans. Full-bodied and rich, with well-integrated tannins. A truly beautiful Reignac. Perhaps it will ultimately be better than the 2005—we’ll see.

Not very interesting. On the palate, it’s very flat. This is certainly a Bordeaux Supérieur, but it’s nowhere near on par with the Bordeaux grands crus, as it claims to be. Yet it’s priced more like a Bordeaux grand cru than a Bordeaux Supérieur. Too much marketing for too little flavor. Too bad.

This is a wonderful and pleasant surprise for this simple Bordeaux Supérieur, which is every bit as good as many more prestigious Médoc wines. A real success.

Tasted in December 2013. The balance between tannins and acidity ensures it will age well for several years. Those who can’t wait can decant it, as it’s already very good. It’s a concentrated wine, but unlike many Merlot-dominated 2009 vintages, it lacks any heaviness or excessive concentration.

As the video shows, this wine is remarkable for its flavor. Let's hope the prices don't go up too much after their success. Let's enjoy it for a long time to come.

Very disappointing—there was a lot of hype surrounding this estate, but in the end, it wasn't much to write home about.
