Robert Parker

“A magnificent nose, rich, smooth, and velvety, offering fruit at the peak of ripeness while retaining plenty of freshness, refined oak, and notes of tobacco; the palate is equally aromatic and powerful, with a deep tannic structure, lovely freshness, and a long finish.” (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2014)

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2023 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

A magnificent nose, rich, smooth, and velvety, offering fruit at the peak of ripeness while retaining plenty of freshness, refined oak, and notes of tobacco; the palate is equally aromatic and powerful, with a deep tannic structure, lovely freshness, and a long finish.

About the estate:

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot are part of that generation of business leaders who became winemakers about twenty years ago. They have greatly enhanced the potential of this estate, both in the vineyard and in the cellars. With guidance from Michel Rolland, they produce red and white wines of exemplary quality and consistency, which rank them among the appellation’s leaders.

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot celebrated their 30th anniversary at the helm of Reignac this year. From the very beginning, the couple has gone all out to position their Bordeaux Supérieurs at the highest level by following the advice of Michel Roland. With the arrival of director Nicolas Lesaint in 2009, viticultural practices have evolved to align more closely with organic farming. This effort is beginning to show in the wines, despite aging practices that are still somewhat intrusive. Extraction is more precise thanks to six small truncated-cone-shaped tanks designed to reflect the specific characteristics of each vineyard plot.
