Wine rated 17.5/20 (Benchmark wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Expressive nose, well-defined fruit, notes of sweet spices, elegant oak; powerful on the palate, with velvety tannins and freshness. Beautiful depth, balance, and potential. Fully developed. Best enjoyed by 2029.

About the estate:

This magnificent estate on the outskirts of Bordeaux has managed to preserve, in addition to its 55-hectare vineyard, a large portion of forests and meadows. In the early 2000s, the Bethmann family undertook major renovations and entrusted the management of the estate to Laurent Lebrun. His meticulous approach and keen analysis of the terroir have led to a significant leap in the quality of the wines. The white wine, which traditionally contains a good proportion of Sémillon, has become complex and elegant, with a well-defined personality; the 2017 vintage truly impressed us. The reds, now vinified much more skillfully, express their excellent terroir with greater precision; they are expressive and energetic.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

Top 30 Bordeaux Wines Under 30 British Pounds (about 35€): One of the most austere wines at this early stage, dominated by Cabernet, which imparts rich layers of blackcurrant and slate flavors. It has good length on the palate; the new gravelly plot once again demonstrates its potential and its impact on Olivier’s structure and character. This is a very good wine with excellent aging potential. 2023–2035

About the wine:

This 2015 vintage offers a generous and harmonious bouquet of red berries, cinnamon, and vanilla. On the palate, it is a full-bodied, dense wine with ripe fruit and a solid tannic structure. A truly beautiful wine with great potential. 2022–2028

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Confirming that this is a true success for the château, the 2015 vintage remains as dense and flamboyant as ever, driven by ripe, full-bodied fruit.

About the estate:

In just ten years, this Graves cru classé has undergone one of the appellation’s most significant transformations. Under the leadership of Laurent Lebrun, the wines have reached an excellent standard, and the commitment of Alexandre de Bethmann, the owner, is undeniable. He has invested significant financial resources to restructure the vineyard. It must be said that this estate is absolutely magnificent! Nestled in the middle of a wooded area, it is situated on a gravelly terroir atop a splendid, well-ventilated hilltop—ideal for producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. The most recent vintages bear witness to this new momentum.

About the wine:

A deep garnet red with violet highlights. This Château Olivier offers beautiful aromatic intensity with freshness, notes of pepper, cherries, and black berries. The palate is elegant and creamy. On the palate, the body is supple and full-bodied. The tannins are fine-grained and have a smooth touch. The structure provides a solid foundation, supporting the fruit. Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2018 guide) 93-94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About the wine:

The nose is refined, fruity, and elegant, with good structure. The wine benefits from being decanted. It reveals notes of crushed blackberry, crushed strawberry, and, more subtly, blackcurrant, combined with a hint of crushed blueberry, touches of licorice and violet, as well as a subtle hint of tea, mild spices, Cuben pepper, and chocolate. On the palate, it is fruity, balanced, fresh, mineral, elegant, and very finely structured, offering lovely finesse of texture, a delicate mineral backbone, juiciness, and nice definition. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry, crushed raspberry, and, more subtly, juicy small berries, combined with hints of crushed blackcurrant, toasted notes, vanilla, chocolate, and an imperceptible hint of caramelization. The tannins are fine, elegant, and precise. Good length.

Ruby red in color with a brown rim. The nose offers notes of red fruit, and the palate is full-bodied with a slight hint of alcohol.

One of my favorite Pessac-Léognan wines, at a very reasonable price. I found it magnificent two years ago. In 2025, it’s still in its “closed” phase, but wait about a year and it will shine again. This wine absolutely must be decanted.
