Domaine Arnoux - Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Fournières 2018
With a deep ruby color, it beautifully expresses fine, delicate aromas of red berries (raspberry, strawberry, cherry) in its youth, followed by black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry) accompanied by pepper, nutmeg, and other spices as it ages. With beautiful intensity on the palate and an elegant woody character, its refined tannins perfectly express the warm character one expects from this Premier Cru.

About the estate:
The estate owns twenty-two hectares of vineyards, including eight hectares of red Chorey and one hectare of white Chorey, with the remainder spread across Savigny, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, and Pernand-Vergelesses. The entire harvest is bottled. Pascal Arnoux and his wife Caroline are now assisted by their son Jean-Baptiste with winemaking and vineyard work, and by their daughter Audrey with marketing and communications. Since 2014, the estate has had new temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to better control fermentation temperatures. The soil is plowed, and the harvest is done by hand with a sorting table upon arrival at the winery. The whites are vinified traditionally and then aged for ten months, with 10% new oak. The reds undergo a three-week vatting period and are aged for twelve months (10% new oak for village appellations, 20% for premier crus). The quality of the grapes allows us to keep about 20% of the harvest whole in some years; “We like it to have a Pinot character, balance is always important; we want to promote aromatic complexity while maintaining depth, the tannins must support the wine.”

I had the chance to taste his Aloxes: excellent. I tasted a 1971 Aloxe with Rémy and some friends in his mom's wine cellar!
