Aloxe Corton: exceptional wines
The wines of Burgundy have a long and illustrious history. The vineyards of the Côte d’Or were already mentioned in the fourth century AD. In 1700, François-Antoine Ferrand, Lord of Villemillon, wrote that the wines of Nuits and Beaune were the best in the region.Established in 1938, the AOCAloxe-Corton and Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru appellation serves as a link between the Côtes de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, of which it is a part. The Montagne de Corton marks a shift in the landscape, which becomes more rounded as it extends toward Beaune. Gentle valleys give way to steep slopes. The appellation covers the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny. It includes 13 climats classified as Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru, meaning precisely demarcated plots distinguished for the quality of their terroir.
The Montagne de Corton, an iconic site in the Côte de Beaune, offers a textbook example of a geological cross-section. At altitudes between 200 and 300 meters, the soils are reddish-brown, containing abundant siliceous nodules, limestone and flint debris (“chaillots”), or loose material rich in potassium and phosphoric acid. The vineyards of Aloxe-Cortonin Burgundy face east to west. The northern section yields the most delicate and fruity wines; the southern section, the most robust and structured. The stony soils produce supple, elegant wines; the more clayey and marly soils, firm and complex wines. It is also a very distinctive climate that has shaped this estate over time. As for the rest, these are certainly well-kept secrets at Château de Corton André. Notable for its incredible roof, it specializes in Burgundy wines and offers around 90 appellations, many of which are AOP.
The grape variety used for Aloxe-Corton and Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru wines is Pinot Noir. White wines, which are very rare in this appellation, are made from Chardonnay. Among the white wines, Domaine Chevalier Père & Fils and Domaine Antonin Guyon stand out in this appellation.
Nowadays, the Aloxe Corton wine is still renowned for its exceptional qualities, which we invite you to discover. Our customers’ reviews are consistently positive, especially among lovers of Beaune wines.
Aloxe Corton Red Wine: Characteristics
The Pinot Noir used for Aloxe Corton red wines benefits from the exceptional terroir of the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée. Its deep, intense ruby-red color, with purple highlights, is reminiscent of the black and red fruits found on the nose. Aromas of morello cherries, blackberries, and raspberries mingle with springtime floral notes while the wine is still young. With age, the Alex Corton red wine reveals notes of prunes, jam, and cinnamon. The palate is equally impressive, with a robust, full-bodied, and well-structured profile. Its pleasant tannins pair perfectly with red meat dishes—whether served in a sauce or simply grilled—or with strong, soft-textured cheeses.
Aloxe Corton wines are best served between 15 and 16 °C.
