Aligoté is a very old variety and Burgundy’s second most common white grape. This fairly vigorous white grape has made a strong comeback in recent years, producing a rich, youthful, trendy white wine with a touch of quirkiness. With floral and citrus notes, it boasts a pale gold hue and stimulates the palate with its lively energy. It’s full of vibrancy—and not just because of the 60-year-old vines, which also lend elegance and depth.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended

About the estate:

The estate comprises twenty-two hectares of vineyards, including eight hectares of red Chorey and one hectare of white Chorey, with the remainder spread across Savigny, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, and Pernand-Vergelesses. The entire harvest is bottled. Pascal Arnoux and his wife Caroline are now assisted by their son Jean-Baptiste with winemaking and vineyard work, and by their daughter Audrey with marketing and communications. Since 2014, the estate has had new temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to better manage fermentation temperatures. The soil is plowed, and the harvest is done by hand with a sorting table upon arrival. The whites are vinified traditionally and then aged for ten months, with 10% new oak. The reds undergo a three-week vatting period and are aged for twelve months (10% new oak for village appellations, 20% for premier crus). The quality of the grapes allows us to keep about 20% of the harvest whole in certain years; “We like it to have a Pinot character, balance is always important; we want to enhance aromatic complexity while maintaining depth, the tannins must support the wine.”
