Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the wine:
It is delicate and full-bodied, with a crisp character.
About the estate:
This small estate comprises 8 hectares of vineyards, spread between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune. Founded in 2009 by Olivier Decelle and Pierre-Jean Villa, it has been managed from the outset by Jean Lupatelli, a talented winemaker who oversees vineyard management and winemaking with great insight. The estate rounds out its lineup with a few additional purchases totaling the equivalent of two hectares, sourced from historic appellations that have been part of the brand since its inception, and relying on grapes harvested by the estate’s own teams. The 2018 reds are soft, charming, and richly fruity and floral, clearly reflecting their origins.

About the estate:
Founded in 2009 by two partners from outside Burgundy —Pierre-Jean Villa (northern Rhône Valley) and Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Roussillon, Jean Faure, Haut-Ballet, and Haut-Maurac in the Bordeaux region), supported by their oenologist Jean Lupatelli—this Nuits-Saint-Georges-based company (wine merchant and estate) has now established a solid foothold in Burgundy.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
Vibrant and lively, the Pommard Epenots is built on a rich, velvety structure. Its balanced flavors and refined texture are sure to charm, presented in a polished, contemporary style.
About the estate:
Founded in 2009 by two leading figures in the wine world, Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Roussillon and Jean Faure in Saint-Émilion) and Pierre-Jean Villa, a winemaker in the northern Rhône Valley, this estate stopped purchasing grapes in 2017. Previously known as Decelle-Villa, it became Decelle et Fils in 2020. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, it relies on organically farmed vineyards on the Côtes de Beaune and Côtes de Nuits. The skilled winemaker Jean Lupatelli crafted wines of excellent quality here, using 20 to 50% whole clusters in the reds, but he recently left the estate in the spring of 2021.

Released in September 2020, this Pommard has really shown its strength—perhaps a little too much! Still green and imposing despite 12 hours of aeration, this young wine still needs to mellow! Be patient, because it certainly has a lot of potential...
