Puligny-Montrachet, along with Chassagne-Montrachet, offers the most perfect expression of Burgundian Chardonnay. In the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the vineyard stretches across brown limestone soils that promote minerality. The oak, perfectly integrated, supports the wine as a whole and highlights its richness and freshness on the palate. • Please note: limited quantities available.

Rated estate (2021 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

This small estate comprises 8 hectares of vineyards, spread between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune. Founded in 2009 by Olivier Decelle and Pierre-Jean Villa, it has been managed from the outset by Jean Lupatelli, a talented individual who oversees vineyard management and winemaking with great insight. The estate rounds out its portfolio with additional purchases covering the equivalent of two hectares, sourced from historic appellations that have been part of the brand since its inception, with grapes harvested by the estate’s own teams. The 2018 reds are soft, charming, and richly fruity and floral, clearly reflecting their origins.

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in 2009 by two partners from outside Burgundy —Pierre-Jean Villa (northern Rhône Valley) and Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Roussillon, Jean Faure, Haut-Ballet, and Haut-Maurac in the Bordeaux region), supported by their oenologist Jean Lupatelli—this Nuits-Saint-Georges-based company (wine merchant and estate) has now established a solid foothold in Burgundy.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Founded in 2009 by two leading figures in the wine world, Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Roussillon and Jean Faure in Saint-Émilion) and Pierre-Jean Villa, a winemaker in the northern Rhône Valley, this estate stopped purchasing grapes in 2017. Previously known as Decelle-Villa, it became Decelle et Fils in 2020. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, it relies on organically farmed vineyards it owns in the Côtes de Beaune and Côtes de Nuits. The skilled winemaker Jean Lupatelli crafted excellent wines here, using 20 to 50% whole clusters in the reds, but he recently left the estate in the spring of 2021.
