"Affirming the Duval Leroy style, this champagne sublimates Chardonnays from the finest certified plots."

"Quite readable as a blanc de blancs with citrus notes and the verticality of this Chardonnay, which is more iodine-like than mineral, with an airy character on the finish, long persistence, good body, and flavorful. It's refined." (Bettane & Desseauve 2024).

Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About wine:

Quite readable as a blanc de blanc with citrus notes and the verticality of this Chardonnay, which is more iodine-like than mineral, with an airy character on the finish, long persistence, good body, and flavorful. It is refined.

About the estate:

Under the energetic and passionate leadership of Carol Duval, now supported by her sons, this house, established in 1859 in Vertus, in the Côte des Blancs, has continually raised its standards. The estate's own vineyards are extensive, covering 200 hectares, with a significant proportion of grands crus in the Côte des Blancs. This represents a third of the requirements of the house, which produces 5 million bottles each year. The cellar master is also a woman, Sandrine Logette-Jardin.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2022 guide) 92/100

About wine:

Only grands crus from the six villages of the Côte des Blancs are used for this cuvée, bottled in 2008 after 11 years on its lees. The nose, beautifully developed with notes of dried fruit and toasted almonds, retains a distinct freshness. On the palate, the wine's suppleness and volume are enhanced by age. What remains is a crystalline and vibrant character that sounds good and calls for creamy noble fish dishes.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Located south of the Côte des Blancs, this family business has flourished under the leadership of the direct and energetic Carol Duval-Leroy, supported by her sons Julien and Charles. It is a recent success story embodied by a dynamic widow, just as Champagne likes them. This Belgian woman, who is passionate about hunting, has made Duval a modern, accessible brand that is now a partner of sommeliers. The cellar area (barrel vinification, storage) has doubled since 2009. Sandrine Logette, one of the few female cellar masters, has been overseeing the vinification process since 2007. She perpetuates the spirit of innovation with an eclectic range of mainly Chardonnay wines, characterized by their creaminess and fine bubbles.
