Champagne Duval-Leroy
Maison de Champagne Duval-Leroy, located in Vertus, is a family business founded in 1859. Today, it is presided over by Carol Duval-Leroy, who takes this venerable house ever further in its quest for quality and excellence.
The Duval-Leroy Champagne House has 200 hectares of vines, divided between Chardonnay, which dominates, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the company's own presses, where those purchased from other growers also converge. The Duval-Leroy Champagne House also boasts modern winemaking facilities adapted to the specific characteristics of the cuvées it produces.
Finesse, lightness and elegance are the hallmarks of Duval-Leroy Champagnes, the result of the house's own jealously guarded know-how, which is overseen by the cellar master alone, to give the wines consistent quality and homogeneity year after year.
Champagne duval leroy is one of the few great houses to have retained its family character. After 160 years of existence, it is a woman, Carol Duval-Leroy, who today runs the House of Duval-Leroy with her three sons. With the help of another cellar master, Duval champagne has resolutely taken the path of innovation, moving towards Organic and sustainable viticulture.
Champagne Duval-Leroy's situation
Duval-Leroy is located in Vertus, a village at the extreme end of the Côte des Blancs. Most of the estate's 200 hectares are located in this area, in the Marne department, south-east of Epernay.
The estate's vineyards are mainly planted with white Chardonnay, the majority grape variety on the Côte des Blancs. It extends over twelve communes, just north of Mont Aimé. The main communes are : Cuis, Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Vertus. Alongside Chardonnay Blanc, there are also Pinot Noir and Meunier vines of the same color, but in smaller quantities.
Enriching Duval-Leroy champagne
It's clear that the future of Champagne duval leroy lies in the way it will be managed by Carol Duval-Leroy's three sons. But where men invest, it's also important to make the most of the existing terroir. The soil they have inherited needs to be respected, so that it can produce the best of its natural qualities. Over a distance of 20 km, the Chardonnay grape gives the best of itself, bringing a particular mineral character and an original finesse to the champagnes and blanc de blancs. It's the chalky soil that imparts its virtues to the grapes growing on it. All the great houses are present on this exceptional terroir.
