Note: RVF 16.5/20
“The 2004 Ambonnay La Grande Ruelle is a small single-vineyard selection that offers a different style, with pronounced notes of mocha and gingerbread (oak-aged), and a finish that takes on a slightly rancid character. A full-bodied, complex champagne that needs to breathe, ideal with white meats and truffles.” (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2013 – RVF)

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Xavier Gonet started his own business in Bisseuil, a premier cru in the Marne Valley, with his wife Julie, née Médeville, from Château Gilette in Sauternes. They have a unique portfolio of vineyards: the family’s contribution of great Chardonnays from Mesnil-sur-Oger (Louvière, Champ d’Alouette), as well as fine Pinot Meunier (Mareuil) and Pinot Noir (Ambonnay and Bisseuil) wines. To ensure the wine retains greater liveliness as it ages, malolactic fermentation is halted. Furthermore, an increasingly significant portion of the base wines ferments in barrels, which enhances the finesse of the bubbles. We appreciate the perfect consistency of this distinctive range, a well-deserved reward for the coordinated efforts in viticulture and winemaking.
