Champagne Gonet-Médeville - Extra-Brut La Grande Ruelle Grand Cru 2004
Rating: RVF 16.5/20
"Ambonnay La Grande Ruelle 2004 is a small selection of plots that changes style with marked notes of mocha and gingerbread (wooden barrel vinification), with a slightly "rancid" finish. A vinous, complex champagne that needs air, ideal with white meats and truffles." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2013 – RVF)

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
Xavier Gonet set up his own business in Bisseuil, a premier cru in the Marne Valley, with his wife Julie, née Médeville, from Château Gilette in Sauternes. They have an original range of vines: the family contribution of great Chardonnays from Mesnil-sur-Oger (Louvière, Champ d'Alouette), good Pinot Meunier (Mareuil) and Pinot Noir (Ambonnay and Bisseuil) crus. To ensure the wine has greater liveliness as it ages, malolactic fermentation is blocked. An increasingly large proportion of clear wines are also fermented in barrels, which enhances the finesse of the bubbles. We appreciate the perfect consistency of a personal range, a fitting reward for synchronized efforts in viticulture and winemaking.
