Champagne Gonet-Médeville - Extra-Brut La Grande Ruelle Grand Cru 2004
Rating: RVF 16.5/20
“The Ambonnay La Grande Ruelle 2004 is a small single-vineyard selection that offers a different style, with pronounced notes of mocha and gingerbread (oak-aged), and a finish that takes on a slightly nutty character. A full-bodied, complex champagne that needs to breathe, ideal with white meats and truffles.” (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2013 – RVF)

About the estate:
Xavier Gonet set up his own business in Bisseuil, a premier cru in the Marne Valley, with his wife Julie, née Médeville, of Château Gilette in Sauternes. They have a unique portfolio of vineyards: the family’s contribution of great Chardonnays from Mesnil-sur-Oger (Louvière, Champ d’Alouette), fine Pinot Meunier wines (Mareuil), and Pinot Noir wines (Ambonnay and Bisseuil). To ensure the wine retains its liveliness as it ages, malolactic fermentation is halted. An increasingly significant portion of the clear wine also ferments in barrels, which enhances the fineness of the bubbles. We appreciate the perfect consistency of this distinctive range, a fitting reward for the coordinated efforts in viticulture and winemaking.
