About the wine:
Cuvée des Coteaux Champenois Athénaïs arrives in the aromatic 2011 vintage: a colorful Pinot, with hints of marc and cocoa, both round and delivering fine bitters. It's ready to drink now.
About the domain :
Xavier Gonet has set up on his own in Bisseuil, a premier cru in the Marne valley, with his wife Julie, née Médeville, of Château Gilette in Sauternes. They have an original range of vines at their disposal: the family's contribution of great Chardonnays from Mesnil-sur-Oger (Louvière, Champ d'Alouette), good Pinot Meunier vintages (Mareuil) and Pinot Noir (Ambonnay and Bisseuil). Malolactic fermentation is blocked to ensure the wine's liveliness when aged. An ever-increasing proportion of clear wines are fermented in barrels, which enhances the finesse of the bubbles. We appreciate the perfect homogeneity of a personal range, just reward for synchronized efforts in viticulture and vinification.
