The 2014 Valbuena, made primarily from Tempranillo with 5% Merlot, is fermented in separate tanks according to the specific vineyard plots, sourced from the estate’s 210 hectares of vineyards, and aged in 20,000-liter casks. 2014 is a spectacular vintage for Valbuena and reminds me of the 2010, perhaps with a bit more elegance and less power. It is expressive and has floral notes on the nose with wild berries, herbs, and spices, and a well-integrated smoky touch. It has lovely complexity, and the palate is medium-bodied and intense with bold flavors and a beautiful length and persistence. Truly spectacular!
