Selection of specific vineyard plots; maceration of the berries for 2 days to allow them to swell; gentle pressing to obtain a high-density must; fermentation in new Hungarian oak barrels (100%) for up to 8 weeks

Method of Preparation

A meticulous process possible only in exceptional vintages and under conditions that favor Botrytis infection of the grapes (the same method has been used for hundreds of years). Aszú refers to the dried grapes, and “puttonyos” means “basket”; the number preceding it—in this case, “5”—indicates the number of 25-kg baskets of botrytized grapes added to a 136-liter “Gönc” barrel of must (unfermented grape juice)—so the higher the number, the higher the sugar content in your Tokaji!

Aged for 2 years in 136- and 200-liter Hungarian oak barrels, then refined in bottles for an additional 2 years
