The Alion cuvée perfectly embodies the classic style of Vega Sicilia. Aged for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels and then further refined for 15 months in the bottle before release, it is an open and very appealing red wine on the nose, revealing notes of red and black fruit, a touch of spice, and subtle oak. A full-bodied, complex, and intense wine on the palate, with undeniable elegance. A fine signature of the estate!

Wine rated (2019 guide) 93+/100 (Outstanding wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Made from Tinto Fino (or Trempranillo) in a modern, fruity style with generous oak, the 2015 Alión is juicy and intense, from a hot, dry vintage that yields a voluptuous and hedonistic red wine with 15% alcohol. It is aged for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, mostly new French oak. On first sip, I found it quite ripe with black rather than red fruit, a touch of earthiness with hints of licorice and ink. The palate reveals abundant tannins, slightly grainy but lacking the quality they had in the 2014; it's a bit dry on the finish, a more mature and powerful vintage of Alión. The nose improves markedly in the glass, but the tannins remain quite present; it might need a little more time in bottle to soften the edges.
