"According to Vinous, this Ribera del Duero represents Vega Sicilia's modern take on this prestigious appellation!"
“This red wine displays finesse and refinement, with aromas of blackberry, black olive, iron, and terracotta. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with slightly chewy tannins and a savory finish. It will soften nicely with age. ” (James Suckling 2023) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The year 2020 was drier than average leading up to the harvest, when rain diluted the grapes, which had to wait to regain their concentration. As a result, the 2020 Alión is a more balanced and fresher wine. They felt that the skins were very ripe and that they could extract more and use a bit more American oak (4%) during aging. Starting in 2019, they kept the press wine separate until June, and they maintain distinct batches of press wine that are aged in different containers depending on the wine’s quality. They used a mix of concrete and oak tanks for aging, which gives the wine more verticality and freshness. This is a subtle and elegant Alión, less dense than other vintages, but with beautiful balance and very elegant tannins. 2025–2035

Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
The 2020 Alión is made from grapes sourced from various plots in Padilla de Duero, Valbuena de Duero, and Pesquera de Duero. It was aged in barrels and large oak casks, with a small portion transferred to concrete tanks. Garnet red color. The aromas are characterized by notes of tart cherry and blackberry, as well as wild herbs and undergrowth. The palate is dry and chalky, with a slight freshness and a rich, taut sensation that leads to a polished, smooth, long, and complex finish. This is Vega Sicilia’s modern take on Ribera del Duero. 2025–2040
