“A Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon-like characteristics following a hot year: expect jammy black fruits and dark chocolate!”

"The 2022 Alión is a powerful and rich wine, characterized by intense aromas of black fruit and a distinctly warm profile. The mid-palate offers a touch of sweet fruit, and the alcohol feels slightly more pronounced than usual, but it is balanced by velvety, juicy tannins and beautifully integrated oak. Notes of prune and black plum give it an opulent, almost Cabernet-like character that will appeal to lovers of richer, more explosive styles. One of the most exuberant and fruit-forward Alión vintages in memory. 2026–2040” (James Suckling 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The Alión vintage released in 2026 is the 2022 Alión, a year they consider a challenge—a hot, dry year in which ripening did not follow the usual pattern: late-ripening vineyards matured earlier, while early-ripening ones took longer this year. Their focus was on preserving the wine’s freshness, so they employed a gentler winemaking process and a more restrained use of oak, utilizing larger volumes and other materials like concrete to tame a powerful, sun-drenched vintage. The nose is serious and even displays a certain austerity. The wine is obviously juicier and rounder, with 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.89, and 4.58 grams of acidity, but it exhibits very good overall balance. The tannins are round, polished, and slightly dustier than in other vintages; the wine has a soft palate. In total, 270,870 bottles, 7,040 magnums, and a few larger formats were produced. It was bottled in May 2024. 2025–2035

About the wine:

A structured, full-bodied wine from a challenging, hot, and dry vintage. On the nose, it is both deep and floral, with notes of graphite, blackberries, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and dense. Let it age for another two or three years. Best enjoyed starting in 2027.
