A traditional Greek wine, Retsina is made by adding pine resin to the must of Roditis—a white grape variety from the Peloponnese. Gaia’s Ritinitis Nobilis stands out for the balance of its aromas: the pine resin dominates, complemented by citrus notes from the Roditis. A refreshing wine to enjoy as an aperitif or with mezedes (Greek tapas). For those who love to explore new flavors!

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France

Winery featured in *Les Meilleurs Vins de Grèce* (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the wineries listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

(The Best Wines of Greece) Lean Karatsalos and Yannis Paraskevopoulos run this winery, founded in 1994 and considered one of the most promising in Greece. Production here spans two wine-growing regions. One is in the Cyclades, on the island of Santorini, in the Episkopi area, where they produce a white wine made from Assyrtiko. This volcanic island allows this local grape variety, which is very fruity in its youth, to develop minerality with age. The other is in the Peloponnese, in Koutsi, a small village where the winery established its cellar in 1997. In this region, at the heart of the Nemea appellation, it produces both white and red table wines, always made from indigenous grape varieties such as Rhoditis and Moshofilero, with their pink berries, and Aghiorghitiko or Saint Georges, with its small black clusters.

I didn't like it, which explains the rating, but I can't really judge because I don't care for the resin—maybe it's just a matter of taste

I wanted to try retsina, but for my taste, the pine resin flavor is much too strong. Best suited for fans of this type of wine.

An excellent retsina. The balance between the pine resin and the other flavors is just right. Perfect for summer mezze.

Even though we were warned that pine resin had been added to the grape must, its flavor was far too pronounced. Tasted during a tasting session with six people, this wine was unanimously disliked.
