Wine noted (guide 2022) 2* Stars (Vintage 2019) (Remarkable wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Sophie Guiraudon, a consulting oenologist, couldn’t resist the call of the vineyard. With no family background in winemaking, she settled in 2000 south of Alaric, in a renovated sheep barn. A small plot—just enough (12 hectares)—to grow, vinify, age, and sell her wine all on her own. Certified organic.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 91/100 (2019 vintage)

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Acquired in 2000 by Sophie Guiraudon, the estate then consisted of 4 hectares of old vines planted at high altitude on a cool terroir in the commune of Ribaute. Today, this trained oenologist cultivates 11 hectares organically, using a biodynamic approach, and is working to restore biodiversity, notably by replanting trees around the vineyards. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Carignan express their purity thanks to a diverse geology dominated by clay-limestone with varying degrees of gravel and stones. This winemaker, who built this beautiful project from the ground up, vinifies without oak, focusing on purity.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/20/2023

Setting itself apart from the appellation’s typical full-bodied style, this Corbières showcases not only the elegance of Carignan but also the intensity of its distinct fruit aromas—prune, black cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant—accompanied by subtle spices and notes of garrigue, licorice, and leather... This whirlwind of flavors is reflected in a full-bodied, complex, and supple palate built around medium-bodied, well-integrated tannins that already display a lovely silkiness and a juicy, blood-red flesh, lingering all the way to the finish with brilliant fruit. Suitable for medium-term aging of around five years. Rated 4.1 for excellent value for money, not to mention the sheer pleasure. This compelling cuvée is highly appealing when shared with friends alongside herb-crusted Cabardès lamb chops and a Languedoc-style eggplant gratin.
