“La Calade? That’s the name given in the South to a sloping, cobblestone street—like the one Jacques Bilhac used to walk down on his way to school. It has earned him a second Favorite the one he received for the 2015 vintage. Don’t be put off by the reserved nose, with notes of blackcurrant and licorice: the fruit and garrigue aromas come to the fore in an intense, refined, caressing, and fresh palate, supported by firm, finely sculpted tannins. Classy and with excellent aging potential.”(Le Guide Hachette 2023)

About the wine:
La Calade? That’s the name given in the South to a sloping, cobblestone street—just like the one Jacques Bilhac used to walk down on his way to school. A wine of class with excellent aging potential.
About the estate:
Coming from a long line of winemakers, Jacques Bilhac—joined in 2003 by his brother Alex—oversees 30 hectares of vineyards, most of whose grapes he supplies to the cooperative winery. In 2014, the brothers built their own winery and withdrew 7 hectares from the cooperative to produce their own wines.

14.5 euros for a wine that, while not the finest in the world, is full-bodied, rich, and flawless. A must-try!

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on February 10, 2023
I discovered this wine at the Vinisud trade show, and it won me over. It opens with a lovely, fresh attack and extreme finesse, giving way to a full-bodied depth, with nuanced layers ranging from vibrant, ripe red fruit (cherry, raspberry, strawberry) to a bouquet of bay leaf and spices. The supple, silky texture envelops the palate with a gentle warmth and lingers with a precise, persistent finish with a hint of pepper. A generous, very Mediterranean harmony, with a bright future and a reasonable price. This graceful wine was a perfect match for headless larks swimming in their basil tomato sauce and al dente penne. Rating = 4.2.
